Phantasialand Height Restrictions: Which Rides You Can Do
Phantasialand height restrictions grouped from 90 cm to 140 cm, with accompanied limits, age rules and upper height caps to help you plan your group's day.
On this page
Phantasialand packs its rides into a compact site in Brühl, and the height rules are unusually granular: most attractions post a lower figure for riding with an adult and a higher figure for riding alone. For families, that difference decides how you split up at the entrance, not just which rides are open to you.
The thresholds step up in blocks of 10 cm, from 90 cm at the gentlest family attractions to 140 cm at the big thrill rides, so a child's height against a tape measure translates directly into a shortlist. Several attractions also carry age conditions and maximum heights that matter as much as the minimum.
What the height bands mean: accompanied versus solo riding
Each ride's rule has two parts: the smallest child allowed on board in the company of an adult, and the height at which a rider can queue alone. At the 90 cm tier an adult is needed until 120 cm; at the 100 cm tier the same pattern applies, while at 120 cm the accompanied range usually runs to 130 cm or 140 cm depending on the ride. Reading the pair together stops you planning around a figure your child clears only with supervision.
The accompanying adult must meet the ride's own boarding conditions, and a taller sibling does not automatically count as a companion. Staff at each entrance measure children and make the final call, so treat the published figures as the planning tool and the gate check as the decision.
Rides from 90 cm
The 90 cm tier is where most young families spend their day, and the ride mix is stronger than the low threshold suggests. Maus au Chocolat and Die 3 Mausketiere are both in the Berlin area, an interactive 3D family ride and a 4D theatre show at the Residenz Theater, and both admit children from 90 cm with an adult, up to 120 cm.
Wolke's Luftpost and Wözl's Wassertreter in the Fantasy area complete the 90 cm list, both with an adult required through 120 cm. Deep in Africa – Adventure Trail also starts at 90 cm with a companion, but adds a minimum age of three, and children aged three to six must walk it with an adult whatever their height.
Rides from 100 cm
Crossing 100 cm opens up a much larger set, and Colorado Adventure is the headline: a family coaster in the Mexico area that takes children from 100 cm with an adult, with solo riding from 120 cm. Crazy Bats, a VR family coaster in Fantasy, sits at the same thresholds, though VR glasses are not permitted in the accompanied range up to 120 cm.
The rest of the 100 cm group is a spread of gentler attractions: Raik, the family boomerang coaster in the Mystery area, Tikal, the family drop tower in Mexico, the Wellenflug swing ride and Das verrückte Hotel Tartüff fun house in Berlin, and Wirtl's Taubenturm and Wavy Battle in Fantasy, with Wavy Battle requiring adult supervision even above 120 cm. All admit riders from 100 cm with an adult through 120 cm.
Two attractions in this band are built for children and therefore have upper limits. Bumper Klumpen, the children's bumper cars, runs from 100 cm to a maximum of 140 cm, and Wupi's Wabi Wipper, a mini free-fall tower, lists a 100 cm minimum with a maximum given as 145 cm on one ride page and 140 cm on the chart, so the 140–145 cm band needs a word with staff.
Rides from 120 cm
At 120 cm the water rides come into range. Chiapas – Die Wasserbahn, the log flume in Mexico, takes riders from 120 cm with an adult up to 130 cm, and solo riders from 130 cm. Winja's Fear and Winja's Force in Fantasy also open at 120 cm with an adult through 140 cm, while Feng Ju Palace in China Town, Würmling Express and Wakobato in Fantasy and the Pferdekarussell in Berlin work to a solo threshold rather than a paired figure, so ask staff about the accompanied rule at the gate.
Winja's Fear and Winja's Force, the spinning coasters in Fantasy, both start at 120 cm with an adult through 140 cm, carry a minimum age of six, and require an adult for ages six to 10 regardless of height. Both list a maximum height of 200 cm, with a 195–200 cm ambiguity to settle with staff.
Rides from 130 cm
Three of the park's signature attractions sit at 130 cm. Taron at Phantasialand, the multi-launch coaster in the Mystery themed world, and F.L.Y., the flying launch coaster in Berlin, both admit riders from 130 cm with an adult through 140 cm; F.L.Y. also has a minimum age of eight, an adult requirement for ages eight to 10 and a maximum height of 205 cm.
Mystery Castle completes the tier, with a 130 cm minimum, a maximum of 195 cm and a rule that under-10s cannot ride whatever their height. These are the rides teenagers gravitate to, and they are also where a family group most often splits between thrill-seekers and everyone else.

Rides from 140 cm
The top tier belongs to the biggest thrills. Black Mamba, the inverted coaster in Deep in Africa, River Quest, the rafting ride in Mystery, and Talocan, the suspended top spin in Mexico, all require 140 cm, and Black Mamba and Talocan post a maximum height of 195 cm. River Quest and the other two also exclude under-10s regardless of height.
Upper height limits and age conditions that override height
Tall adults and tall teenagers run into the ceiling figures as often as small children hit the floors. Mystery Castle, Talocan and Black Mamba cap riders at 195 cm, F.L.Y. at 205 cm, and the children's attractions close their doors lower down, at 140 cm for Bumper Klumpen and around the mid-140s for Wupi's Wabi Wipper.
Age conditions sit alongside height and cannot be swapped for centimetres. The under-10 exclusion applies to Black Mamba, Talocan, Mystery Castle and River Quest, the six-to-10 adult requirement to both Winja coasters, and F.L.Y.'s eight-to-10 adult rule to the flying coaster. Plan a party's ride order around the youngest and oldest conditions in the group, not just the smallest person.
Height thresholds by age: what a 5, 8 and 12 year old can typically reach
Most five-year-olds clear 100 cm and some reach 110 cm, which puts the whole accompanied 90 cm and 100 cm tiers in play but leaves Chiapas, the Winja coasters and everything above out of reach. The Adventure Trail's minimum age of three and its supervision rule for ages three to six make it a strong first stop for that age group.
At eight, a child often clears 120 cm, which unlocks Chiapas and both Winja coasters with an adult, and may stretch to 130 cm for Taron and F.L.Y. Even at 130 cm, F.L.Y. and the Winja rides still require an adult in the lower age bracket, so a lone older child cannot queue without one.
By 12, most children clear 140 cm and reach everything except children's rides with upper limits, but the under-10 conditions fall away, so a 12-year-old at 140 cm or more can ride Black Mamba, Talocan and River Quest without the age barrier. Above 195 cm, the tall-adult caps on Mystery Castle, Talocan and Black Mamba become the constraint.

Which rides suit young children, families and thrill-seekers
Young children are best served in Fantasy and Berlin, where the 90 cm and 100 cm attractions cluster: Maus au Chocolat, Die 3 Mausketiere, Wolke's Luftpost, Das verrückte Hotel Tartüff, Raik and the Fantasy carousel rides. Head there at opening while the rest of the park fills, then move to Mexico for Colorado Adventure and Tikal once the family has its bearings.
Families with mixed heights get the best value from the 120 cm tier, where Chiapas and both Winja coasters reward a child who has just grown past the line, while the accompanying adult handles the supervision. If you are weighing a second park day, compare these thresholds with the Heide Park height restrictions, which apply the same accompanied-versus-solo logic to a different ride line-up. For pure thrill-seekers, the 130 cm and 140 cm rides in Mystery, Berlin and Deep in Africa are the day's real targets.
Measuring children and planning around each threshold
Measure at home without shoes, and keep the figure in centimetres rather than inches, because every posted rule is metric. A child sitting exactly on a threshold such as 120 cm or 140 cm is the likeliest case for a staff check at the gate, so allow time at the entrance rather than budgeting the day to the millimetre.
Group the day by threshold instead of by land: one pass for the 90 cm and 100 cm attractions, a second for the 120 cm rides, and a final block for the 130 cm and 140 cm coasters. That structure also tells you when to use rider swap, with one adult waiting with a smaller child while the other rides.
Group logistics: rider swap, splitting the party and companion rules
Phantasialand's companion rules are specific to each ride, so agree at the entrance who is riding with whom before joining the queue. The 120 cm to 140 cm range is where splitting works best, because one adult can accompany a child on a mid-tier coaster while another takes a taller rider to Taron or Black Mamba.
If your group includes a disabled guest or a carer, read the Phantasialand accessibility guidance for individual attractions before choosing which rides to target together. A short break built around the park, staying at a Phantasialand Hotel, makes it easier to split the day across two visits rather than forcing every threshold into one.
Plan Around Your Group's Heights
Phantasialand's height rules reward a little planning: five bands from 90 cm to 140 cm decide which lands your group can share and which rides split it. Match each child's barefoot height to the bands, note the age conditions on the big coasters and the upper caps on the children's rides, and the day organises itself.
Check the current ride rules on Phantasialand's own attraction pages before you travel, since staff at each ride make the final call on height and companion conditions. Seasonal programmes such as Phantasialand Halloween and Phantasialand Christmas can change which rides are open, so cross-reference the official calendar when you fix your dates.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum height for Taron and F.L.Y. at Phantasialand?
Both coasters start at 130 cm. Riders between 130 cm and 140 cm need an adult with them, and solo riding begins above 140 cm. F.L.Y. also carries a minimum age of eight, an adult requirement for ages eight to 10 and a maximum height of 205 cm.
Which Phantasialand rides can a 100 cm child go on?
A child of 100 cm can ride Colorado Adventure, Crazy Bats, Raik, Tikal, the Wellenflug, Das verrückte Hotel Tartüff, Wirtl's Taubenturm and Wavy Battle, plus the 90 cm attractions, all with an adult until they reach the solo threshold. Bumper Klumpen and Wupi's Wabi Wipper also open at 100 cm but have upper limits, so taller children are excluded from those two.
Can my child ride Black Mamba if they are tall enough but under 10?
No. Black Mamba requires a minimum height of 140 cm and excludes children under 10 regardless of height. The same age rule applies to Talocan, Mystery Castle and River Quest, so a tall nine-year-old will still be turned away from all four.
Are there maximum height limits at Phantasialand?
Yes. Black Mamba, Talocan and Mystery Castle cap riders at 195 cm, and F.L.Y. at 205 cm. The children's attractions close lower: Bumper Klumpen at 140 cm and Wupi's Wabi Wipper around 140 to 145 cm, where the published figures differ and staff confirm at the gate.
Which Phantasialand rides suit a 120 cm child?
At 120 cm a child can ride Chiapas with an adult up to 130 cm, and both Winja's Fear and Winja's Force with an adult until 140 cm, provided they are at least six and accompanied up to age 10. Most of the 90 cm and 100 cm attractions remain available to them as well.
Do children need an adult with them on Chiapas?
Yes, up to 130 cm. Children from 120 cm to 130 cm must ride Chiapas with an adult, and solo riding begins above 130 cm. Staff check the height at the entrance, so a child sitting on the boundary should expect a measurement before boarding.
