Fastrack passes let you join a shorter queue entrance instead of the standby line, and at Thorpe Park and Alton Towers they are the main paid shortcut on the big coasters. Thorpe Park sells four tiers plus a single-ride option, while Alton Towers keeps its priority pass simpler. Which one suits you depends on how many headline rides you want and whether Hyperia is on your list.

The first thing to understand is that a Fastrack pass never includes park admission in either resort, so you are buying two separate products for the same day. Budget for entry first, then decide whether the queue-jump spend is worth it on top.

What a fast track pass buys you at a UK theme park

A Fastrack pass gives you access to a dedicated entrance at participating rides, where you join a much shorter line than the standby queue. You still ride the same coaster as everyone else; you are paying to spend less of the day waiting. At Thorpe Park the pass is sold per person, and it cannot be shared between members of your group.

There are two buying models across the two resorts. Thorpe Park sells tiered packages that cover a set number of rides for a fixed price from £9 per person for Bronze up to £135 per person for Platinum, plus a single-use One Shot option from £6. Alton Towers sells Fastrack as a priority pass on its roller coasters without publishing tier details on its landing page, so compare the products in each resort's own booking flow before you commit.

Thorpe Park Fastrack packages and how they differ

Bronze is the entry tier from £9 per person and reduces your wait at three rides chosen from a list of nine, with Hyperia excluded. Silver from £35 per person moves up to five named coasters, again without Hyperia. Neither tier covers the whole park, so check that the rides you care about appear on your chosen package before buying. Gold from £115 per person opens up 14 rides across the whole day, adding the flat rides and water rides to the coaster lineup. Platinum from £135 per person adds Hyperia as a fifteenth ride, which is the only difference between the two top tiers. That makes the jump from Gold to Platinum a single-ride upgrade in practice.

The rides covered by each Thorpe Park package

Bronze covers Detonator, Flying Fish, Ghost Train, Rush, Samurai, Storm Surge, Tidal Wave, Vortex and The Walking Dead: The Ride. Silver narrows to five major coasters: Colossus, Nemesis Inferno, Stealth, SAW - The Ride and THE SWARM.

Gold combines both lists into 14 rides, so you get the five classic coasters plus the thrill and water rides in one package. Platinum adds Hyperia to make 15. If your group splits between coaster riders and everyone else, Gold covers both without paying for the Hyperia entry that younger or shorter riders may not use.

One Shot Fastrack at Thorpe Park

One Shot Fastrack is the cheapest way to skip a single queue, priced from £6 per ride. You buy it in the official Thorpe Park app or by scanning a QR code at the entrance of any of the rollercoasters, so there is no need to plan it before your visit. It suits a rider who wants one go on a specific coaster rather than a full day of shortcuts.

Availability is limited and sold on the day, so treat One Shot as a bonus rather than a guarantee on your must-do ride. If a particular coaster is the whole reason for your trip, a package booked in advance is the safer plan.

Hyperia and why the Platinum package matters

Every Thorpe Park package below Platinum explicitly excludes Hyperia, so riders who want the park's newest headline coaster need the top tier. Platinum at £135 per person is the only package that includes it, alongside the 14 rides in Gold.

Think of the Gold-to-Platinum difference as paying for one Fastrack entry on Hyperia plus the rest of the 14-ride lineup. If Hyperia is not on your list, Gold does the same job for less. If it is the reason you are going, Platinum is the only route.

Alton Towers Fastrack and how to buy it

Alton Towers sells Fastrack as its priority pass to reduce waiting time on the roller coasters. It sits in the same extras section of the booking site as car parking and VIP experiences, which is where you add it to an existing ticket order. Check the park's own Fastrack page for the current products, ride coverage and prices for your date.

Alton Towers spreads its major rides across a large estate, and the Skyride cable car is the usual way to move between the far ends of the park. A Fastrack pass shortens queue time but does not shorten walking time, so plan your route between areas before you decide how much Fastrack you need. One-shot Fastrack for Merlin Platinum passholders

Merlin Platinum Annual Pass holders get one free one-shot Fastrack on every visit to the resort theme parks, including Thorpe Park and Alton Towers. You redeem it at the Fastrack entrance of your chosen ride by scanning your valid Platinum pass barcode, with no booking needed in advance.

The perk is capacity-limited, and it is designed as one ride per passholder per attraction per day rather than a full-day pass. It pairs well with a Platinum-level Merlin annual pass if you visit often, though lower tiers do not carry it. Compare tiers on the Merlin annual pass guide before renewing.

How Fastrack scanning and timing works

At Thorpe Park, all-day Fastrack tickets can be scanned once every three minutes, which sets the pace at which you can move between Fastrack entrances. That interval is what makes an all-day package more than a list of rides: it determines how many you can realistically fit in. Fastrack is also sold on a limited basis and subject to availability, so buying a pass does not guarantee a slot on your must-do ride.

The Merlin Platinum one-shot perk is also subject to availability, and Merlin states that one-shot Fastrack may be withdrawn on a ride when its standby queue exceeds 90 minutes. Expect Fastrack to be hardest to use on the busiest days, not the quietest.

Fastrack and park admission: two separate purchases

Thorpe Park states plainly that park admission is sold separately from Fastrack, so the pass price is never the full cost of your day. Buy entry first, then add Fastrack, and keep both order confirmations together for scanning at the gate.

The same split applies at Alton Towers, where Fastrack is an extra alongside parking and other add-ons rather than a ticket type. Watch the total when comparing packages: a £135 Platinum pass is on top of entry, so weigh it against simply buying a second day at the park for the same outlay.

Is Fastrack worth it for families with young children

Young children are often too short for the major coasters, which is exactly where Fastrack concentrates. If your day is built around gentler rides, the package covers little your family can use, and standard entry plus a relaxed route through the park is the better buy.

Groups that split up are the clearest case for Gold at Thorpe Park: the coaster riders use the five big names while everyone else uses the flat and water rides on the same pass. Bronze works for a family that wants three specific rides without paying for the full coaster lineup.

Is Fastrack worth it for thrill-seekers

Thrill-seekers get the most from Silver, which covers exactly the five classic Thorpe Park coasters: Colossus, Nemesis Inferno, Stealth, SAW - The Ride and THE SWARM. If those five are your whole agenda and Hyperia is not, Silver at £35 per person is the cheapest way to ride them all with shorter waits.

Add Hyperia and the calculation changes, because it sits only in Platinum. Riders who want multiple goes on the whole coaster lineup across a full day should look at Gold or Platinum rather than stacking One Shots.

Ride order and rope drop as a free alternative to Fastrack

Arriving for opening and heading straight to the most popular coaster is the free version of a queue-jump pass. At Thorpe Park, walking to Hyperia or Stealth first thing gives you a head start before lines build. At Alton Towers, the same logic applies to the headline coasters near the entrance before you work your way outward through the park.

Rope drop plus a sensible ride order often covers a short list without any extra spend, leaving Fastrack for a second day or for a visit when you want a relaxed pace. Spend the saved money on a nicer lunch or an overnight stay instead.

Buying on the day versus pre-booking

Thorpe Park recommends checking that both your entry ticket and Fastrack package have availability before buying, because capacity is limited. Pre-booking both together locks in your day; buying on the day works for One Shot, which is sold in the app and via QR codes at coaster entrances.

Fastrack tickets at Thorpe Park are non-refundable under the terms published with the packages, so a date you are unsure about is better bought on the day. For a firm date with a clear must-ride list, pre-booking saves the risk of arriving to sold-out packages.

Accessibility and Ride Access Pass compared with Fastrack

A Ride Access Pass and a Fastrack pass are different products with different eligibility rules. Fastrack is a paid extra open to anyone; Ride Access Pass is an accessibility scheme, and the resort publishes separate guidance on how to apply and how it works at each ride. Use the resort's accessibility and ride access pages to check current eligibility and how the scheme works at each ride before your visit.

Merlin also allows Red Ride Access Pass holders with a carer ticket to bring one companion when redeeming a Platinum one-shot Fastrack. That exception is specific to the passholder perk, so read the terms attached to it before your visit.

Combining Fastrack with a short break or overnight stay

Both resorts sell overnight stays, and pairing a hotel night with a Fastrack package spreads the cost over two days of riding. Thorpe Park lists Thorpe Shark Cabins and themed rooms among its short break options, with packages that bundle accommodation and park extras. Check what each break includes before adding Fastrack separately.

A two-day break usually removes the need for the top Fastrack tier, because you can spread the coaster lineup across both mornings. If your trip is a single day, the pass does more work. Plan Your Visit

Decide your must-ride list first, then match it to the cheapest package that covers those rides. At Thorpe Park that usually means Silver for the five classic coasters, Gold for a full day across the park, or Platinum only when Hyperia is the point of the trip. At Alton Towers, compare the Fastrack products for your date before adding one to your ticket order.

Check the official Thorpe Park or Alton Towers page for your date to see current package prices, ride coverage and opening times, and buy entry and Fastrack as two separate items.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many times can you use Fastrack at Thorpe Park?

That depends on the package. Bronze gives three uses, Silver five uses, and Gold and Platinum are all-day packages covering 14 and 15 rides respectively. All-day tickets can be scanned once every three minutes, which sets the practical pace between rides.

How can I get a free Fastrack at Alton Towers?

Merlin Platinum Annual Pass holders get one free one-shot Fastrack on every visit to the resort theme parks, including Alton Towers. You redeem it by scanning your Platinum pass barcode at the Fastrack entrance of your chosen participating ride. It is subject to availability, and may be withdrawn on a ride when its standby queue exceeds 90 minutes.

Does Fastrack include park entry?

No. At Thorpe Park, park admission is sold separately from Fastrack, and the same split applies at Alton Towers, where Fastrack is an extra rather than a ticket type. Budget for entry first, then add Fastrack on top.

Can you buy Fastrack on the day at Thorpe Park?

Yes. One Shot Fastrack is sold during your visit through the official app or by scanning a QR code at coaster entrances, and package availability is limited on the day. For a firm date and a set must-ride list, pre-booking both entry and Fastrack is the safer choice.

Is Hyperia included in Fastrack?

Only in the Platinum package. Bronze, Silver and Gold all exclude Hyperia, while Platinum includes it alongside the 14 rides covered by Gold.

Is Thorpe Park Fastrack worth it?

It pays off when your must-ride list is longer than a rope-drop morning can cover, or when you want a relaxed pace. For a short list, arriving at opening and riding in a sensible order costs nothing, and One Shot covers a single coaster.
