Drayton Manor Resort groups more than 50 rides and attractions, a 15-acre zoo and its hotel around a central lake near Tamworth in Staffordshire. The layout is compact enough to walk in a day, but the areas sit on different sides of the water, so the order you visit them in decides how much ground you cover. Reading the park map before you arrive turns a list of ride names into a route.

This guide walks through each area in a logical order, flags the landmark buildings that make navigation easy and suggests half-day and full-day routes. It also separates the two entrance points, which matters if you are staying at the hotel or arriving by car.

The official park map is an illustrated overview with separate numbered keys for Thomas Land, thrill rides, family attractions and the zoo, plus a service key for toilets, baby changing, medical help, lockers, Guest Services and parking payment points. Each attraction is identified by a colour and a number, so the quickest way to use it is to pair the ride name with its category rather than following numbers alone.

The map orients you rather than measuring your walk. A straight line across the lake is not a path, so treat the water as a barrier and follow the drawn routes around it. That single habit explains most of the awkward zig-zags first-time visitors make between Thomas Land and the far side of the park.

Locations on the sheet tell you where a ride stands, not whether it is running. Ride availability is published separately from the map, so match your planned stops against the day's list before you commit to a circuit.

The park layout at a glance: the lake, the main entrance and the second gate

The main entrance sits on the lower right of the illustration, with Thomas Land immediately to its left and Adventure Cove filling much of the lower-right section. Frontier Falls stretches toward the top of the map and Vikings occupies the upper shore, with the zoo spread across the broad left-hand side. The lake separates several of these districts.

A second entrance and exit is marked toward the upper right, beside Vikings and its car park, and the hotel occupies another part of that upper edge. These are different places from the main gate, so note which one you use at the start and end of the day. Returning to the wrong side can leave your group on the opposite shore from the car.

Thomas Land: the compact cluster beside the main entrance

Thomas Land holds over 25 rides and attractions on the Island of Sodor, and the dense orange-numbered cluster sits just left of the main gate, with Knapford Station as a handy reference point. The attractions sit close together, so families with young children can work through several in one pass instead of crossing the park between them. Sodor Railway runs through the area, while Bertie Bus, Sodor Classic Cars and Toby's Tram Express are separate stops despite sounding like variations on the same thing.

Two play areas, Emily's Adventure Play and Spencer's Outdoor Adventure Play, are destinations in their own right rather than ride queues, which helps when children need a runaround between rides. Because so much sits in one pocket of the park, Thomas Land works best as a focused block of the morning rather than a series of returns.

Adventure Cove: the water-themed area by the main entrance side

Adventure Cove is a nautical zone close to the main entrance, built around The Wave coaster, Stormforce 10, Maelstrom, Tidal Towers and Wave Swinger, with River Rapids pictured toward the right of the map. The Wave's large structure makes a strong landmark for regrouping, and the area's position means it can be either your first stop or your last before leaving.

Because Adventure Cove sits on the opposite side of the entrance approach from Thomas Land, a group splitting between the two can use the central path that links them. Decide whether Frontier Falls, Vikings or the zoo forms the middle of the day before setting off, so nobody retraces the same path twice.

Vikings: Thor, Loki and the upper shore

Vikings sits between the Frontier Falls side of the park and the second entrance near the upper right, with Thor, a Disk'O Coaster, and Loki, a Zamperla Nebulaz, alongside Jormungandr and Sleipnir. The shared theme does not mean shared ride conditions, and the rides carry different categories on the map key, so group the ones that suit your party within the district before moving on.

The lake lies immediately below parts of Vikings, and the hotel and its parking sit beyond the attraction boundary above. Those features orient the outer edge of the park but are not internal routes between rides. To reach Adventure Cove, follow the marked paths around the water rather than cutting toward the hotel side.

Frontier Falls: Gold Rush and the Wild West end of the park

Frontier Falls runs toward the top of the map, where Gold Rush has a large coaster footprint and Blasting Barrels, Sheriff's Showdown and Accelerator sit nearby as family attractions. The Haunting and the theatre building also fall within the broader key. The central route toward Frontier Falls passes the Carousel area and the lake-side Bounty Pirate Ship, which makes the district a natural continuation after the central rides.

Choose the specific entrance to each attraction rather than following a visible piece of coaster track through the district. The main stage and nearby food stops mark the junction where the route opens toward the lake, a useful meeting point if your group separates.

The zoo, Dino Trail and Tamarin Trail on the west side

The 15-acre zoo occupies the broad left-hand section of the park, with separate green entries for the zoo, Dino Trail and Tamarin Trail, and landscaped paths that feel quite different from the compact Thomas Land cluster. The railway extends from the Thomas Land side toward Tidmouth Hault Station beside the zoo, connecting the two areas if the train is running that day.

Use the zoo's own signs for individual animals and exhibits once inside; the park map shows the area's position rather than an enclosure-by-enclosure plan. Building the zoo in as a separate block, rather than a walk-through between rides, gives it a realistic slice of the day.

Where the headline rides sit on the map

The three coaster-scale landmarks sit in different quarters: The Wave in Adventure Cove by the main entrance, Gold Rush at the Frontier Falls end, and Thor on the upper shore at Vikings. Placing those three on a mental map shows why alternating between them and the zoo changes the whole circuit, and why reordering two neighbouring rides is a much smaller adjustment than reversing direction around the lake. If you are comparing how other parks split their coasters across zones, the Alton Towers map is a useful contrast.

Ride availability changes through the season, so the map's illustrations should not be read as a promise that every attraction is open. Match your must-do list to the day's published availability before you set a route, then use the map to put the open rides in a sensible order.

The reliable way between districts is the marked path network around the water, with the central Bounty Pirate Ship and Carousel area acting as the pivot between the entrance side and Frontier Falls. Treat the Sodor Railway as an attraction with its own boarding arrangements rather than a transport service, and do not plan a schedule around it.

A simple rule keeps the day efficient: work clockwise or anticlockwise once, and only break the loop for a booked meal or a show. Thomas Land and the zoo sit naturally together on one half, with Adventure Cove, Vikings and Frontier Falls on the other.

Guest Services, the Medical Centre and practical stops

Guest Services sits opposite the Bounty Pirate Ship and handles lost property, lost children and eligible access arrangements, so the ship doubles as a landmark for the help point. The Medical Centre is beside the 4D Cinema, also known as the theatre, where the adapted restroom and hoist room are located. These are separate destinations, and identifying both before setting off saves time later.

Lockers sit behind Neptune's Arcade, with the cash point inside the arcade, while wheelchair and buggy hire is at the main entrance subject to availability. Nursing and baby-changing facilities are opposite Safari Pizza & Pasta, with baby changing also available in the toilets and essential baby items sold at the Toy Shop in the centre of the park.

Food, picnic areas and toilets by area

Food venues are marked with their own symbols, distinct from ride numbers, and several are tied to a single area: Sodor Airport Restaurant and Knapford Station in Thomas Land, Safari Pizza & Pasta centrally. Naming the venue when you arrange a break avoids confusion where a station name also appears in the railway context.

The map also marks picnic areas alongside the dining spots, and locating the toilets and baby-changing symbols nearest each district is quicker than walking back to the entrance. Note the service symbol beside your current area, since facilities are spread across the park's districts rather than gathered at the main gate.

Sample half-day and full-day routes

For a Thomas-focused half day, mark the orange attractions your group actually wants, add the zoo as a block on the left, and take a food stop by name in the same part of the park. That keeps several stops in neighbouring districts instead of repeatedly moving between Thomas Land and the far side of the lake.

For a full day covering the big rides, start with Adventure Cove at opening, move through the central rides toward Frontier Falls, then work back along the upper shore through Vikings before finishing at the zoo or Thomas Land. Add a booked meal or show as the fixed point and build the rest of the loop around it.

Fast Pass products can shorten waits on selected rides, and buying one changes the value of a route that hops between areas. Decide before you arrive whether you are touring by geography or by queue, because the two plans pull in different directions.

Arrival points: main entrance, Vikings-side entrance and hotel

The resort is near Tamworth in Staffordshire, and the operator gives B78 3TW as the postal address, with separate parking areas labelled on the map for the theme park, Thomas Land, Vikings, the zoo and the hotel. Follow the parking allocation and pedestrian signs on the day rather than navigating to a remembered gate.

Guests staying at the Drayton Manor Hotel arrive at a different edge of the park, near Vikings and the upper car park, so the shortest walk into the attractions is not the main entrance. Save the name of your entrance and parking area, and finish the day by returning to that same point.

Using the map with the official calendar and ride availability page

The map shows where everything is, while the official opening times page sets the day's operating window and ride availability lists what is running. Confirm both on the Drayton Manor website before travelling, then use the map to slot the open rides into a route that follows the lake rather than crossing it.

Seasonal events change the shape of a day too, with Blazing Halloween, Magical Christmas and Twixmas adding their own programmes and late openings at different points in the year. On event days, check where the event activity sits on the map so it does not pull you away from the rides you came for.

Plan Your Visit

A good Drayton Manor day starts with two decisions: which entrance you use and which half of the park you take first. Lock those in, group Thomas Land with the zoo or the coasters with Adventure Cove and Frontier Falls, and the lake stops being an obstacle.

Download the official map before you travel, confirm the day's opening hours and ride availability on the park's own pages, and keep the Guest Services point opposite the Bounty Pirate Ship in mind as your central landmark.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Thomas Land on the Drayton Manor map?

Thomas Land is the compact cluster immediately to the left of the main entrance, filled with the orange-numbered attractions and anchored by Knapford Station. The zoo lies further left, and Adventure Cove sits on the opposite side of the entrance approach.

How do you get between Adventure Cove and Thomas Land?

Use the central path that links the two areas past the entrance approach rather than walking around the lake. The Bounty Pirate Ship and the Carousel area make useful landmarks on that central route.

Which entrance should you use at Drayton Manor?

Day visitors normally arrive at the main entrance beside Thomas Land and Adventure Cove. Guests at the on-site hotel arrive near a second entrance and car park on the upper right of the map, beside Vikings.

Where are the toilets and baby changing at Drayton Manor?

Baby-changing facilities appear across the park's toilets, and a nursing room sits opposite Safari Pizza & Pasta. The map's service key marks each facility by area, so find the symbol nearest where you plan to be.

What is the best route around Drayton Manor for families with young children?

Start in Thomas Land while it is quietest, add the zoo as a separate block on the left side of the park, and keep Adventure Cove for a final pass near the main entrance. That order avoids crossing the lake more than once.
