Alton Towers Water Park is an indoor water park tucked inside the Splash Landings Hotel on the resort, which means it works in drizzle or sunshine and suits families who want a swim alongside their ride days. It is a separate attraction from the theme park: Alton Towers Resort theme park tickets do not include water park entry, so plan and budget for two products.

The water park blends thrill slides such as the Master Blaster and Rush and Rampage with a lazy river and shallow play areas with buckets for younger children, so a mixed-age group can split up and regroup. If you are still deciding how the water park fits into a wider trip, start with our Alton Towers guide for the resort layout and season.

What the water park is and who it suits

Inside the water park you get the Rush and Rampage tube slides for older children and teens, a lazy river for drifting, and play structures with water buckets aimed at little ones. That mix makes it a good half-day for families with children of different ages, and a relaxed option for adults who want a pool session rather than another coaster.

Because it sits under one roof, the water park is not dependent on dry weather in the way the theme park's outdoor rides are. For a short break, that makes it a useful second-day activity when you want something gentler after a long day on your feet in the park.

Where the water park sits at the resort

The water park is part of the Splash Landings Hotel complex rather than the main theme park, which matters when you plan arrival, parking and how much walking you want between the two. Staying on the resort removes the drive between the hotel and the water park and lets you slot a swim into the evening or a rest day.

If you are arriving for the day, plan the drive the same way you would for the theme park and use our guide on how to get to Alton Towers by car, train or bus to work back from your timed slot.

The slides and water play areas

The headline slides are the Rush and Rampage tube slides and the Master Blaster, a faster slide that requires a minimum height. Around them, the lazy river and the younger children's play area with water buckets give non-thrill-seekers somewhere to spend the session.

Volcano Springs has a separate age requirement of five and over, so check each slide against your youngest child before promising a particular ride. Build your session around one or two slides each person really wants, then let the lazy river fill the rest.

Minimum heights, age rules and tube weight limits

On the Master Blaster, riders must be at least 1.1m tall, and guests between 1.1m and 1.2m need to ride on a double ring with an adult. Rush and Rampage takes children over the age of three, but anyone under 1.1m must be accompanied by an adult, while Volcano Springs is limited to guests aged five and over.

Tube slides carry a maximum weight of 21 stone per tube on slides such as the Master Blaster and Rush and Rampage, which is worth noting if adults plan to pair up on a double ring. Measure your children at home against the 1.1m mark so you know which slides are realistic before you queue.

Tickets: separate admission and online booking

Theme park tickets do not include the water park, so you need a separate water park ticket or an add-on when booking a short break. Booking online in advance secures a discount against the walk-up price and guarantees entry, which matters because capacity is capped and dates do sell out.

Walk-up tickets exist but depend on availability, so treating them as a backup rather than a plan is the safer approach on weekends and holidays. When a date is full, the booking system stops selling that slot entirely, so flexible dates help.

Savings routes: passholders, toddlers and spectators

Promotional vouchers used for the theme park do not apply to the water park, so don't arrive expecting to reuse a two-for-one offer. Instead, Merlin Annual Passholders can book in advance with a discount off standard water park tickets and must show a valid pass at reception on the day.

Blue Light cardholders can pre-book discounted tickets, but these need booking at least 24 hours ahead and are not available on the day. Off-peak term-time weekdays bring a combined parent and toddler ticket for one adult and one child under five, with any extra adult paying standard admission.

Adults who are not swimming can buy a spectator ticket at water park reception on the day, subject to availability but not bookable in advance. Alternatively, Ma Garrita's bar within Splash Landings Hotel gives a no-entry vantage point, though it provides no access to the water park itself.

Adult-to-child supervision ratios

The ratios are stricter than a general supervision rule. One adult aged 16 or over covers either one child aged four or under, or two children aged five, six or seven, and everyone in that group must be swimming for the ratio to count. Children under eight need a supervising adult in the water at all times.

Children aged eight to 11 do not count towards the ratio but must be accompanied inside the water park by a responsible adult aged 16 or over, who can hold either an entry ticket or a spectator ticket. Anyone aged 12 or over can go unaccompanied. Plan your adults before you book, because a group with several young children may need more swimming adults than expected.

Timed entry slots and busy dates

The water park runs a timed entry system: you choose a time during booking, and at peak periods a session may guarantee access for a minimum of two hours. Once a slot's capacity is reached, that time disappears from the booking page, so a sold-out session is normal rather than a glitch.

For busy school holidays, choose your slot as early as your plans allow and stay flexible on dates, since the difference between a Saturday and a midweek day can be the difference between booking and missing out. Pair your slot with the park's opening times to avoid a dash between the theme park and the hotel.

Lockers, changing rooms and the 20p coin requirement

Changing rooms are available on site, and lockers need 20p coins, so bring change rather than relying on card or contactless. Pack light, keep valuables in a locker and allow time to change before your slot begins.

If you are combining the water park with a park day, leave a bag with dry clothes somewhere sensible rather than dragging everything onto the slides. Hotel guests have the advantage of a room nearby for a proper change.

Combining the water park with theme park days

Sponsored

A common pattern is one day in the theme park and a shorter water park session on the second day, especially for families with younger children who tire faster in the outdoor park. Book the theme park day for the rides you care about, then use the water park as the wind-down.

Weather decides the order more than anything else: a wet forecast is a natural prompt to move the water park earlier and push the rides to a drier day. Our Alton Towers weather planning notes cover how a wet day changes the park.

If your dates land in October, Scarefest evenings can run late, which makes a next-morning water park slot a better fit than an early start the day after.

On-site stays that pair with the water park

Resort packages typically include accommodation, breakfast, free parking, evening entertainment and a round of Extraordinary Golf, with theme park and water park entry added during booking. That packaging is where the water park becomes good value rather than a separate cost.

Accommodation ranges from hotel rooms to woodland lodges, stargazing pods and treehouses, so a family and a couple can pick very differently. Check what each option includes before you compare totals against an off-site stay.

When to swim: term-time weekdays versus school holidays

Term-time weekday sessions are the quietest, which is why the parent and toddler offer runs Monday to Friday in school term time. Weekend and school-holiday slots fill first, and the two-hour minimum session is most likely to apply then.

If your group includes children under eight, a quieter weekday makes the ratios easier to manage and gives younger swimmers more room in the play areas. If you can only travel in the holidays, book the slot first and plan the rest of the break around it.

Visiting with a dog: what applies around the water park

For a dog-owning visitor, the key starting point is that the water park is an indoor attraction inside the Splash Landings Hotel at Alton Towers resort, Stoke-on-Trent, ST10 4DB, so your dog cannot join you on the slides or around the pool. Anyone in your party who wants to use the Rush and Rampage Tube slides, the lazy river or the play areas with water buckets needs to be inside the water park itself, which is a separately ticketed attraction from the theme park.

The water park is open almost all year round, which matters if you are planning a dog-friendly trip in the colder months and need someone to stay behind with the dog while others swim. Opening times and days vary, and the water park can reach capacity during peak times, so advance online booking is a useful way to fix a slot rather than turning up and waiting. Advance tickets are available from £23pp when booked online, and Blue Light cardholders can pre-book at least 24 hours in advance for tickets from just £15pp, excluding other discounts.

Because the water park sits within the resort and is reachable by car, coach, train and bus from major cities, a practical arrangement for dog owners is to split the group: one adult stays with the dog outside the pool area while the rest swim, then swap if needed. That keeps the dog out of the water park while still letting the family use the slides, the lazy river and the little ones' splash areas. Resort short breaks that include accommodation, breakfast, Extraordinary Golf and parking are priced from £100pp, with water park entry added to the package, which can suit households coordinating swim time around a dog.

Plan Your Visit

Treat the water park as its own booking: choose a date, pick a time slot, confirm which slides your group's heights and ages allow, and count your supervising adults against the ratios. Then add the theme park days around it and check the official Alton Towers water park page for the current calendar, session times and prices before you pay.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Alton Towers theme park tickets include the water park?

No. The water park is a separately ticketed attraction inside the Splash Landings Hotel, so theme park entry does not cover it. You can buy water park admission on its own or add it to a resort short break when you book.

What are the height and age rules at Alton Towers Water Park?

The Master Blaster requires a minimum height of 1.1m, with riders between 1.1m and 1.2m using a double ring. Rush and Rampage is open to children over three, with anyone under 1.1m accompanied by an adult, and Volcano Springs is for guests aged five and over.

Can you use two-for-one vouchers at Alton Towers Water Park?

No. Promotional two-for-one vouchers and similar theme park offers do not apply to the water park. Discount routes include booking online in advance, Merlin Annual Passholder rates and, at off-peak term-time times, a combined parent and toddler ticket.

Do you need to book Alton Towers Water Park in advance?

Booking ahead is the reliable option. The water park uses timed entry slots and caps capacity, and when a date or time sells out the booking system stops accepting further bookings for it. Walk-up tickets exist but depend on what is left on the day.

What are the adult-to-child ratios at Alton Towers Water Park?

One adult aged 16 or over covers one child aged four or under, or two children aged five to seven, and all of them must be swimming. Children under eight need an adult in the water with them, while children aged eight to 11 must be accompanied inside by an adult aged 16 or over.

Is the Alton Towers Water Park open all year?

The water park operates across most of the year but not on a fixed daily pattern, and sessions are booked by time slot. Check the official Alton Towers water park page for the current calendar and available session times for your date before booking travel.
